Every person has unique experiences while dealing with a diagnosis of advanced cancer, whether it be advanced from the start or a cancer that has returned. Being shocked at first is normal but if getting on with life afterwards is becoming a struggle or living with the cancer treatments is very difficult then consider applying for this program. Many people face similar challenges with their mood and worries. When these become excessive, there are helpful ways to deal with them.
We are recruiting for a study to evaluate an online treatment program for depression and anxiety in people who currently have advanced stage cancer. The iCanADAPT Advanced program is a new online program designed to help these cancer patients with depression and/or anxiety.
iCanADAPT Advanced program is looking to recruit people with advanced cancer who are reasonably physically fit. To be eligible to participate, you should be able to freely walk about your home and also be able to do light physical activity, like light house work or office work. We are looking to trial the program with individuals who with modern cancer care now live with cancer as a ‘chronic illness’.
Regretfully, due to our research ethics, the iCanADAPT Advanced program is not able to recruit people in the last phase of their life (i.e., the terminally unwell) nor are we able to recruit hospitalised patients. We recommend that people in this stage of illness, or those in hospital, should access face-to-face therapy.
You must also be an Australian resident, 18 years of age or older, fluent in written English, and have access to the internet with an updated browser and Adobe PDF reader. In order to participate, you will need to provide a valid email address and create a password to complete questionnaires online that enquire about your demographics and questionnaires relating to the above eligibility criteria. We will also want to know your GP contact details.
If you are eligible and agree to participate, you will be allocated access to the 12 week online treatment program. All components are online and participants are required to answer questionnaires related to anxiety and depression over the 12 weeks, with final follow-up questionnaires 3 months after conclusion of the program.
Participation in this study is voluntary and you can withdraw from the study at any time without having to give a reason.
